Goodman NZ has had a relationship with Duffy Books in Homes (Duffy Books) over many years, funding books under this program in five low docile schools in the Auckland area.
The philosophy of Duffy Books is to break the cycle of ‘bookless-ness’ in poorer communities, where children who can’t read become adults with poor literacy skills. The target group is primary schools. Each semester, every child gets to select a book which they then own i.e. three books per year. Each class also receives one book per week for 10 weeks, used as rewards for students and/or to enhance their school library. The funding of the program is one third by the NZ Government, one third by the school and one third by the Goodman Foundation.
