Goodman develops 45,000 sqm logistics property for Hellweg at the Rhynern industrial park in Hamm

Wednesday, 3 December 2014

Goodman has acquired a 90,000 sqm plot on the Rhynern industrial park from the Hamm Economic Development Office, where the international specialist for logistics properties is to develop a new logistics centre for Dortmund-based do-it-yourself (DIY) chain Hellweg. The contract of sale has now been concluded between Goodman and the local authorities and the project is expected to create over 100 local jobs.

In the words of Hamm Economic Development Director Christoph Dammermann following signature of the contract: "In light of the tight construction schedule, I am delighted that we have completed the first step with the sale of the plot. We will continue to support Goodman and Hellweg throughout the course of this ambitious construction project. Tight schedules are nothing new for us. The key is to ensure that all stakeholders are working in tandem."

This decision by the DIY chain is a reaction to the rapid growth of its Hellweg DIY stores, which has created the need for additional, state-of-the-art logistics capacity. To this end, the company sought a sustainable industrial site for realignment of its logistics operations. With the Rhynern industrial park plot, the Hamm Economic Development Office was able to come up with an optimal site.

"The decisive factors in terms of opting for the site were the central location, infrastructure links and the possibility of swift project realisation," explained Franz Dressel, Expansion Manager at Hellweg Die Profi-Baumärkte GmbH & Co. KG.

Construction of the 45,000 sqm logistics hall is due to start shortly and upon completion at the end of 2015 the new logistics centre will employ over 100 full-time staff.

"As a developer, investor and manager of properties, we are delighted to have found the ideal site in a strong logistics location. Here in Rhynern we will be investing around €30 million in land and buildings," stated Jordan Corynen, Goodman Director for Germany. "We are developing a tailor-made logistics property for our customer Hellweg. With the planning permit in hand, nothing stands in our way to quickly start construction."

Modern, ecological standards are a priority for Goodman, which plans to achieve DGNB certification for the Hellweg property in Hamm.
